SOMATIC PSCYHOTHERAPY
WHAT TO EXPECT
Targets patterns shaped by neurobiology, behaviour, and lived experience
Resolves incomplete survival responses held within the body
Builds a more adaptable and resilient nervous system
Integrates cognitive insight with awareness of internal physiological states
Integrates evidence-based therapeutic approaches with an understanding of how experience is stored and expressed through the body. Rather than relying on insight alone, this approach works with internal sensation, awareness, and physiological responses to access patterns that traditional talk therapy may not fully reach.
When stress, overwhelm, or trauma occurs, the body initiates protective responses. If these responses are not fully processed, they can become ingrained patterns that shape how you think, feel, and relate to the world.
In session, we work collaboratively to track these patterns. By bringing awareness to these responses and supporting safe completion of these cycles, the system can begin to reorganize toward greater stability and adaptability
Grounded in neuroscience, somatic psychotherapy supports transformation, rewiring how your system responds, not just how you think about it.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Most people notice a change within the first few sessions, often even after one. This can look like improved sleep, a greater sense of calm, or more space between stimulus and response. Deeper patterns take longer. This work builds over time through consistent shifts in how your system processes stress and emotion.
-
Somatic psychotherapy combines traditional therapy with body-based awareness.
Instead of only intellectualizing or analyzing your experiences, we track how they show up physically and work with them directly. This allows stored stress and emotional patterns to move, rather than repeat.
-
Sessions are collaborative and adaptive to the individual. We will talk, but we’ll also work with breath, sensation, and awareness to regulate your system in real time. Over time, this builds your capacity to stay present with more of your life.
-
Psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP, but many extended health plans cover sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).
